This Year
Community Spirit At Its Best
On a warm spring morning, volunteers,
businesses, organizations and even some early bird festival-goers
gathered in and around Mosaic Park in anticipation for the 11th Annual
Whalley Community Festival. Continuing with tradition, the North Surrey
Lions Club were out bright and early to cook up a fabulous pancake
breakfast with all the fixings.
At noon, the whole park was already
buzzing as the Halifax Wharf Rats kicked off the festival with their
unique blend of Celtic/Maritime music. Families, large and small,
excited children, curious teens, and other eager faces weaved through
the many fun and informative booths that represent the Surrey
Community. There were no shortage of eats and treats either.
After the North Surrey Lions Club wrapped up their delicious pancake
breakfast, the grill was fired up by the Sunrise Seniors and hot dogs
and burgers were sizzling up the barbecue. The Whalley Legion Ladies
Auxiliary prepared wonderful strawberry tea. Prospera Credit Union
delighted festival attendees with free popcorn and free snow cones, a
nice way to cool down in the warm June sun.
As the crowd took in all the fantastic
freebies and happenings at the festival, Wolfe Milestone, a local award
winning country artist, took the stage. His charm and the energy of his
music had many people head-bobbing to the beat. Audiences sang along to
local teen sensation Juggy Jag*s charismatic performance. And back by
popular demand, Beatles tribute band Fab Fourever got people moving
straight to the dance floor.
At the Youth Zone, world champion B-boys,
Fresh Grove showcased some mind-boggling dance moves as they led the
B-boy contest. Over at the Kids Zone, an enormous bouncy castle and a
marvellous magician entertained children of all ages. And last but not
least, the legendary Prism rocked out with the entire Whalley Community
Festival playing both old favourites and new hits.
Although this year*s festival has wrapped, all
the happy faces and positive feedback from festival participants is
most definitely a sign that Whalley Community Festival will be back
next year. Thank you to the many sponsors that made the 11th annual
Whalley Community Festival a success.
